Abstract
483,920. Pressure-gauges. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and STANSFIELD, R. Oct. 27, 1936, No. 29178. [Class 106 (ii)] Relates to apparatus of the kind in which a diaphragm or disc is acted upon on one side by the varying pressure to be measured and on the other by a known applied pressure, the disc being moved to break or make an electric indicator circuit upon equalization of the pressures, and consists in substituting for the contacts a device which causes a change of magnetic flux linked with an electric circuit connected to indicating means. A body 2 threaded to screw into an opening in the cylinder is provided with a seating in which is a plate 1 which together with the body 2 is drilled with a small hole. A small disc 3 of magnetic material rests over the hole and is surrounded by an annulus 4 of slightly thicker magnetic material. An upper plate 5 of non- magnetic material is clamped above the disc and limits its movement to the extent of the above small difference in thickness. A polepiece 7 of magnetic material is provided with a small bore communicating by a pipe 6 which communicates with an air reservoir and with a pressure gauge. The upper part of the adaptor 2 contains a coil 9 surrounding a central core 10 placed against the pole-piece 7. The coil 9 is then connected in a circuit for instance so that the induced current may raise the potential on the grid of a grid-controlled gas tube sufficiently to initiate a discharge and thus operate an indicating instrument. The voltage induced across the coil 9 may be applied after amplification to one pair of deflecting plates of a cathode-ray tube, the other pair being supplied with voltage desired from any form of time base circuit.
