483,683. Prepayment mechanism for meters. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 29, 1936, No. 29460. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1935. [Class 27] A prepayment meter mechanism comprises a main plate 1 on which is mounted a complete prepayment mechanism for a normal simple tariff assembled from separate individual parts and including a differential a, b, c connected to a second differential d, e, f, one of the sun wheels f of which is driven by the consumption meter. The planet wheel carrier e is connected to and drives the sun wheel c, the sun wheel a being rotated by prepayment. When it is desired to change from a simple tariff to a tariff including a basic charge, a pre-assembled motor driven mechanism is attached to the main plate to drive the sun wheel d. The planet carrier e now rotates at a speed equal to the sum of the rotations of the wheels f, d. The basic charge mechanism comprises a synchronous motor 18 and gearing 19 which are mounted between plates 21, 22. These plates are held together by hollow rivets which fit over columns 23 forming part of the assembly for a simple tariff, the whole being then secured by screws 24. The simple tariff mechanism comprises a gear 2 driven by a coupling member 3 from the coin holder mechanism 4. The gear 3 meshes with a gear 5, a pin 6 on which engages and drives a star wheel 7 connected to the sun wheel a. The shaft 8 of the gear 5 carries a crank 10 which actuates a swinging lever 12 to operate a switch in a casing 13.
