Abstract

483,078. Weft-feeler arrangements. GLEDHILL, W. Sept. 9, 1936, No. 24551. [Class 142 (iii)] The devices are used mainly for drop box looms, but may, as described below, be modified for use with oneshuttle looms. Opposite each cell of the drop box, a spring - controlled feeler d with a horizontal arm d<1> is pivoted on the shuttle box, and when a cell is brought up or down to the level of the race way, a fixed cam i mounted on the lay acts to withdraw the feeler from contact with the active shuttle in that cell. When next the drop boxes move up or down, the cam i allows the withdrawn feeler to move inwards into contact with the previously active shuttle and if this is substantially exhausted the corresponding arm d<1> moves from a position behind to a position in front of a gapped plate m on a vertical spindle k. When the drop boxes now move to place the exhausted shuttle in active position, the cam i moves the arm d<1> back. During its movement the arm d<1> engages the plate m and turns the spindle k, which by lever mechanism moves a finger n<2> into position to engage a bowl and operate a lever. This actuates mechanism for stopping the loom replenishing the weft in the shuttle, or substituting a full shuttle for the exhausted one. Rods p mounted in front of each shuttle binder e are provided with fingers p<2> pressed by springs p<3> against the binders and with hooks p<2>. These normally prevent movement of the arms d<1>, but when a shuttle is boxed, the corresponding hook is swung clear. When only a single shuttle is used, the arm d<1> is acted upon by a cam r, Fig. 5, which is moved vertically by lever mechanism and a cam u<1>. The plate m which can swing vertically and rearwardly is moved vertically by a member v. The plate may be arranged to position a lever arm to engage a contact or abutment, so that on completion of the backward movement of the lay an electric circuit is closed, or a rod is rocked and the loom is stopped &c.
