Abstract

482,795. Knitted fabrics. HARRIS, A. C. July 8, 1936, No. 18932. [Class 74 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] Blankets, pads, carpet underlays, clothing, &c. are composed of knitted fabric with a weft cord 3 incorporated therein during manufacture for use as an electrical heating device. The fabric may consist of independent warp chains 2 held in place by the weft 3. The heating element consists of comparatively low resistance wire 4 wound spirally on a core 5 of wool, cotton &c., and wrapped with varnished textile yarn 8. The wire may be enamelled and covered with silk &c. 7. The selvedge loops of the cord are subsequently bound with lengths of tape 10 stitched at 11, 12. Instead of a continuous weft, a number of warps may be incorporated in the fabric and subsequently joined at the ends. The cord is connected to twin wires 17, 18 of a lead 13 projecting into the pocket a and provided with a lamp holder adapter.
