Abstract

<PICT:0482096/III/1> Large crystals of Rochelle salts &c. are formed by circulating a solution in a system comprising at least two vessels 4, 6 in communication with each other and maintained at different temperatures, keeping the solution in the warmer vessel 4 in a saturated condition by passing it through crystals so that it enters the cooler vessel 6 in a supersaturated condition, and growing a crystal in the latter vessel. The vessels 4, 6 are immersed in liquid in chambers 3, 5 at different temperatures, and the solution is circulated by a pump 25 which forces it through a filter 19 and a layer of crystals enclosed between the filter and a perforated tube 18, which leads the solution to the pipe 7 opening into a vessel 6. The liquid in the vessels 3, 5 may be heated by electric elements 10, 11, 12.
