Abstract
<PICT:0595989/III/1> A crystalliser for hydrated salts comprises an elongated vat through which a cooling liquid flows from one end to the other, an endless rail above the vat from which rail tubs containing the crystallisable solution are suspended and travel along the rail in the cooling liquid in a direction opposite to that of its flow, and means for filling the tubs with solution, discharging mother liquor after crystallisation, dipping the tubs into hot water to loosen the crystals, and discharging the crystals. Tubs 3 loaded at A with solution then pass through cooling vat 1 in direction f the cooling liquid flowing in direction F. At B the tubs are partially turned over to decant mother liquor and then pass through the hot water tank 6 to loosen the crystals. At C the tubs are inverted to remove the crystals, and then return to A for reloading.ALSO:A crystallizer is described suitable for the crystallization of acid or neutral solutions of sodium sulphate from viscose spinning baths, the crystals obtained from neutral solutions being used in the manufacture of viscose sponges, while acid solutions or spinning baths are crystallized to lower the sodium sulphate concentration for re-use of the bath, with the sulphate as by-product.
