Abstract

482,070. Discharge lamps. VEREINIGTE GLUHLAMPEN UND ELEKTRIZITATS AKT.-GES. March 22, 1937, No. 8369. Convention date, March 21,1936. [Class 39 (i)] In a lamp provided with incandescent electrodes of refractory metal, e.g. tungsten, a filling of rare gas and mercury, and a discharge path located in a tube which is formed of quartz or the like, has an internal diameter of less than 5 mms., and is capable of withstanding an internal pressure greater than one atmosphere and a drop of 500 volts per cm., at least one electrode, or the relevant part of it, is made so small that, when in use it is heated to a temperature of at least 2200‹ C. and emits one per cent of the total light. Blackening may be prevented by 10 per cent to 15 per cent of nitrogen added to the rare gas, or by applying cryolite to the electrodes or to the inner surface of the lamp.
