Abstract

481,329. Tanks. BILLIG, J., and BILLIG, P. J. Feb. 26, 1937, No. 5784. [Class 69 (i)] A tank, particularly an aeroplane fuel tank, is formed with internally-projecting ribs by crimping the metal of the shell, the ribs being bent to provide flanges to engage with the flanged edges of metal partitions, which flanged edges conform to at least two flanges of the rib so as to interlock with it and prevent lateral separation of the partition from the rib. In the construction shown the ribs 13 formed by crimping the side walls of the tank are bent to U-form in section, and corresponding ribs 17 formed of a double thickness of metal are bent at the sides of the horizontal partitions 12, which are assembled by sliding them into engagement with the ribs 13. Vertical baffles 25 are similarly secured to ribs formed on the top and bottom walls, and the baffles 12, 25 are secured to one another by similar hooked ribs. A number of baffles 12, 25 extend the length of the tank, and are separated by transverse baffles 11, to which flanges 23 on the partitions 12 may be riveted. Figs. 5, 6, 7 show alternative forms of internal ribs formed on the shell 10 and correspondingly-flanged edges on the partitions, which in Figs. 6, 7 are formed of a double thickness of metal 34.
