Abstract
481,230. Couplings for transmitting rotary motion. CHANCE BROS. & CO., Ltd., and HARRIS, R. C. March 4, 1937, No. 6419. [Class 80 (ii)] Means for coupling say a gear-wheel e to a concentric or coaxial member such as a shaft a, comprises two or more radially or axially movable keys h, slidably or pivotally carried on one member, e.g. a flange f bolted to the shaft a, and constantly reciprocated, as by means of a stationary cam-groove n, into and out of engagement with driving projections k on the wheel e, the keys being taken out of engagement in turn to allow them to pass stationary obstructions, such as a slotted cylindrical post b or a slotted plate, arranged between the shaft a and wheel e. At least one key h is always in driving engagement with the wheel e through the slots of the post b. Each key may separately engage the cam-groove n, or, as shown, the two keys h are secured to a frame i, which has a single roller o engaging the cam-groove n.
