481,035. Intaglio printing-machines. HOE & CO., Ltd., R. (Hoe & Co., Inc., R.) Oct. 19, 1936, No. 28428. [Class 100 (ii)] Inking - apparatus.-In rotary intaglio printing-machine having a reciprocating doctor blade, each end of the doctor blade is provided with a wiping-device resiliently pressed into contact therewith to prevent ink from dropping from the end of the doctor blade. The doctor blade 13, Fig. 1, is secured to a holder 14 on arms 15 pivoted to brackets 16 on a base 19 which is reciprocated on a guide 23 by a crank 25 and connecting rod 27. The brackets 16 may be adjusted towards and away from the cylinder 12 by screws 21. Cams 17 actuated by a handle 18 coact with the arms 15 to hold the blade 13 in contact with the cylinder. A resilient blade 31, Figs. 1 and 3, carried by a bar 34 fixed to the edge of the fountain 11 engages the underside of the holder 14 to conduct any ink thereon down into the fountain. At each end of the blade 13 is a wiping-device comprising a rawhide strip 35 mounted in a sheet-metal holder 36 of U-section, which is mounted with freedom of movement against the wall 39 of a tray 38 by means of a plate 48 and screws 49, 51 passing through horizontal and inclined slots 56, 57 formed in the holder 36 and strip 35. The holder is thus free to pivot and slide under the action of a spring 37 to engage in close contact with the underside of the blade 13 and with a strip 50 which overhangs the end of the cylinder and supports the end of the doctor. The tray 38 is provided to catch any ink that may pass the wiping-device and return it through a hole 47 to the ink fountain.
