Abstract
480,447. Harvesting cabbages etc.; agricultural forks. FERGUSON, C. S. R. Aug. 27, 1936, Nos. 23504 and 26913. [Classes 6 (ii) and 6 (iii)] A two tined fork b carried at the end of a long tubular handle a is provided with guides on which a knife d, actuated by a plunger passing through the handle, may slide : a hook c capable of passing round the stem of a cabbage or like plant is secured to the fork and this hook may be provided with a knife edge co-operating with the knife d. The cabbage stem is held in the hook and the knife pressed down to sever the stem. A short upstanding knife d<1> may be arranged in the knife d to split the stem. In a modification the knife h, Fig. 4, is fixed and the hook is actuated by the plunger ; a small knife n is fixed to the outside of the fork to trim off ragged leaves. The plunger may be fitted in guides at the side of the handle.
