[Class 6 (iii)] To render a knife positioned on the edge of a divider for cutting through tangled stalks of crops safe when not in use the knife is mounted so that it can be turned to position the cutting edge inwards against the divider. As shown a supplementary outside divider 2 is provided with a socket bearing 6 and at the other end with a bracket 7 carrying a pin 8. The knife 3 has a pin 9, round or crosssection at its extremity but with a square cross-section portion a little higher up, mounted on its lower end ; the socket 6 has a co-operating square portion to house the square portion of the pin. The upper end of the knife is provided with a handle 11. the lower part of which has a socket 12 into which the pin 8 fits. A helical spring normally forces the knife downwards so that the squared parts of the pin 9 and its socket are in engagement. By pulling the blade upwards against the pressure of the spring the squared portions can be freed so that the blade may be turned into either the operative position, Fig. 2, or the inoperative position, Fig. 3, being locked in either of these positions when released. A pin 14, projecting from a bracket 13 carried at the middle of the divider engages a socket 15 at the mid part of the knife to stiffen this part.
