PIE-TRIMMER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 30, 1919.
Application filed April 22, 1919. Serial No. 291,843.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lno C. Hennnencx, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butte, in the county of Silver Bow, and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pie-Trimmers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in pie cutters and sha ers.
An important ob]ect of this invention is to provide a pie cutting and shaping device havin a novelly constructed blade adapted for a justment with relation to the shaping element.
A further object of this invention is to provide a novelly constructed handle having means for supporting the shaping and cutting element.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described, which is of highly simplified construction, few in parts, desirable in use, and cheap to manufacture.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described, which by reason of its extreme cheapness of manufacture and desirability in use, will meet with commercial favor when placed upon the market.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pie cutting and shaping device embodying my invention,
Fig. 2 is also a side elevation of the same, the view showing the opposite side, and,
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 indicates a handle constructed of a length of metal having its outer end portion bent upon itself as indicated at 6. The forward portion ofthe handle 5 is bent at right angles to provide a shaft 7. A shaping disk 8 is rotatably mounted on the shaft 7 and is provided with a peripheral outwardly extending flange 9 having orimped portions 10 adapted for providing the peripheral portion of a pie with the usual ribs. A washer 11 is mounted on the outer portion of the shaft 7 and abuts the shaping disk 8. The head 12 of the shaft 7 isenlarged for retaining the shaping and cutting device in position. As clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, the cutting device includes a blade 13 having an opening 11 receiving the shaft. A collar 15 provided with an annular flange 16 is formed integral with the blade 13 and is provided with an opening 17 receiving the shaft. The blade 13 is stamped integral with the collar 15 and is extended from one side of the peripheral flange 16. The peripheralflange 16 is provided with a screwv threaded opening 18 receiving a set screw 19 adapted to engage the shaft and lock the blade 13 in position. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the blade 13 is adjustable about a vertical axis and is thereby adjustable with relation to the bearing surface of the shaping element. If the crust of the pie is relatively thick, the blade 13 may be arranged vertically with relation thereto. If the crust is thin, the blade 13 may be arranged in a slightly angular position with relation thereto and thereby prevent the blade from; extending too far beyond the crust upon cutting the same.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that I may make such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts, as will remain within the spirit of the invention, and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A device of the character described including a handle having its forward portion thereof bent at a right angle to provide a shaft, a shaping element mounted on the shaft, and a cutting blade mounted on the shaft and adjustable with relation to the shaping element.
2. A device of the character described including a handle, a shaft carried by the forward end of the same, a shaping element mounted on the shaft, a blade having an opening therein for receiving said shaft, and means for positioning said blade about said shaft.
3. A device of the character described including a handle, a shaft carried by the forward end of the same, a shaping element mounted 011 said shaft, a collar having an opening therein for receiving said shaft and having a peripheral flange provided with an opening, a blade extended from said flange and having an opening for receiving said shaft, and a set screw extending through the opening of said flange and engaging said shaft for adjusting said blade about a horizontal axis. v
4. A device of the character described including a shaft, a handle carried thereby, a cutting element mounted on the shaft, an annular flange secured to the cutting element and having an opening therein, and a set screw extended through said opening and engaging said shaft for adjusting said cutting element about a horizontal axis.
5. A device of the character described including a handle, a shaft secured thereto, a shaping element rotatably mounted on said shaft and having a peripheral flange provided with crimping means, a collar rotatably mounted on said shaft and having a peripheral flange provided with an opening therein, a cutting blade formed integral with said flange and having an opening receiving said shaft, said cutting blade extending be yond the flange of said shaping element, and a set screw extending through the opening of the flange of said collar and engaging said shaft for adjusting said blade about a horizontal axis.
6. A device of the character described including, a handle, a shaft carried thereby, an annular shaping element rotatably mounted on said shaft, a cutting blade havingan opening receiving said shaft and having its cutting edge extending beyond said shaping element, an annular flange formed integral with said blade, a set screw carried by said annular flange, and means to retain said shaping element and said cutting blade on said shaft. m
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
