480,376. Pedal crank driving- mechanism. WARREN, I. M. Oct. 14, 1936, No. 27910. [Class 136 (ii)] In pedal-crank driving-mechanism for tandems and other cycles adapted to be propelled by two or more riders, the pedals are carried by a parallel-link assembly comprising the crank arms rotating about spaced axes and interconnected by parallel connecting- rods having freely extending parts fore and aft carrying at their ends the foremost and rearmost pedals. The crank shafts may be geared together. In the tandem driving- mechanism shown, two crank spindles 1, 2, arranged closer together than the usual crank spindles, are geared together by toothed wheels 4, 5, 6, and a chain wheel 7 secured to the wheel 5 drives the rear road wheel through a chain 8. The cranks 1a, 2a and 1b, 2b are coupled together by rods 9, 10, which extend beyond their pivot pins 12 and carry at their ends pedals 11 of usual form. The toothed gearing between the spindles 1, 2 may be replaced by chain gearing, and the chain gearing 8 by toothed gearing.
