480,148. Moulding confectionery. SOC. ANON. DES ETABLISSEMENTS G. EVRARD & HERBET AU PIERROT GOURMAND, and HERBET, J. A. G. April 8, 1937, No. 9974. [Class 87 (ii)] Lollipops mounted on a stick are produced in a machine having, means for cutting a length of sugar from a roll, compressing: the cut-off portion into a blank, transferring the blank into a mould and inserting a stick into the blank during its compression in the mould. A sugar roll 1 is shaped by rollers 4 and a piece is severed therefrom by a reciprocating slide 6 and compressed against a fixed wall 15. A punch 28 carried by a cross-head 25 then slightly compresses the blank. The plate 7 is then withdrawn and the blank is pushed down by the punch 28 into a recess 32 in the ejector 8. The slides 6, 7, 8 and the cross-head 25 are all operated by levers and cams mounted on the shaft 12. The blank is transferred by the slide 8 to a mould 36 carried by an endless chain 37 advanced intermittently by a Geneva-stop gear 40, 42 from a shaft 44. The blank is pushed into the mould 36 by a finger 53 and, later compressed by a die 54 both of which are actuated by cams from shaft 44. While the blank is being compressed in the mould 36 a stick is inserted by a piston reciprocating, across the base of a hopper 62 from which the sticks are fed by a rubber roller 65. A guide 68 for the sticks is provided in each mould. A brush 69 is provided for cleaning the moulds.
