479,061. Typewriters &c. BURROUGHS ADDING MACHINE CO. July 31, 1936, No. 21228. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1935. [Class 100 (iv)] Sheet-guiding arrangements ; ink-ribbon mechanism.-A front-feed guide for tickets &c. consists of an open-end shoot mounted at one side of the printing position and arranged between the platen and a length of ink ribbon so that the ticket, after being placed in the shoot, can be moved laterally into printing position, wrinkling of the ticket or displacement of the ink ribbon being thereby avoided. The shoot 23 shown in the Figure is secured to the plate 10 that supports the platen 11 of a calculating-machine, and is arranged between two stretches of an ink ribbon 16 employed for typing on the ticket 28 and a record strip 12. The ink ribbon is wound on spools 17, 21. The shoot is arranged at one side of the printing position and is formed at the outer end and top with troughs 27, 26, the inner end being open and being formed with slots 30 for permitting close contact of the ink ribbon and the papers. The ticket is inserted through one of the troughs 26, 27 and is then moved laterally into printing position, a stop limiting the movement. A plate prevents the ticket from sagging. For holding very flexible tickets &c., the inner end of the shoot is slit to provide fingers for gripping the ticket. The shoot may also be provided with an extension consisting of a strip which extends to the end of the platen and is doubled to provide a narrow slit for gripping the ticket. The strip is formed at the inner end with a finger for directing the ticket into the slit. For use with long tickets &c., an additional shoot 40 is provided, and the ink ribbon is reverted by means of guides 44, 45, on the shoot, the arrangement preventing the loop of the ink ribbon from obstructing the ticket.
