Abstract

478,622. Casting - machines. JONES, W. April 20, 1937, No. 11231. [Class 83 (i)] Relates to means for casting tubular articles such as gas containers, flanged pipes &c. in which a core is introduced into a mould containing molten metal and rotated therein during the operation and consists is mounting the core above the mould and raising or lowering it into or out of the mould through an opening in the top thereof. The core may be reciprocated by hydraulic mechanism and there may be a plurality of moulds mounted on a carrier. As shown, a core 5 reciprocated by a plunger 16 in a cylinder 17 is carried by plates 13, 14 spaced apart by pillars 37 and moving along fixed standards 12 attached to framing 10, 11. Gearing 19, 20 is carried on a bracket 22, mounted on the plate 14, and carrying one element 23 of a dog clutch the other element 24 of which is slidable on a shaft 25 carrying a gear 26. Longitudinal movement of the shaft 25 brings the gear 26 into and out of engagement with a gear 27 driven by a shaft 30 and correspondingly brings the clutch element 24 into and out of operative position. Moulds 4 are mounted on a sliding carrier 3 moved by a screw 6 and nut 7.
