Abstract
478,459. Trusses. HERZBERG, A. C. Jan. 29, 1937, No. 2720. [Class 81 (ii)] A truss comprises a pad of easily compressible resilient material in combination with, but not mechanically connected to, a body belt having. a substantially rigid pad backing plate of less vertical dimension than that of the pad. The pad is held in position relative to the backing plate merely by the pressure of the plate which sinks into the body of the pad. In Fig. 1, the plate 17 of stiff leather, metal, &c. is attached to one end of a flexible belt 16, to the other end of which are connected coupling straps 18 by buckles 19. Button holes formed in the free ends of the straps engage with studs 21 projecting from the plate 17. The free end of a crotch strap 22 secured to the back of the belt is also formed with a button hole to engage with one of the studs 21. The pad 10, Fig. 3, is made of sponge rubber and the face engaging the plate 17 may be corrugated to minimize slipping. Suction cup elements 13 are embedded in the face of the pad contacting with the wearer's body. They are formed with annular flanges 14 which project somewhat from the face of the pad, or are flush therewith. A suitable covering, e.g. chamois skin, may be interposed between the pad and the wearer's body, and may be fastened over the pad. The upper end of the pad is preferably tapered. Fig. 6 shows a truss for double hernia, individual pads 10 10<11> being supported by plates 17<1>, 17<11> which are linked together by straps 24. Two crotch straps 22<1>, 22<11> are provided. In another truss for double hernia, a single pad of a size adapted to cover both of the affected areas is provided and is held in position by a single enlarged plate.
