Abstract
477,622. Ice - cream servers. NEWTON, T. H. July 15, 1936, No. 19636. [Class 28 (i)] [Also in Group V] A device for making ice-cream wafers comprises a mould 10 the base of which is apertured at 12 for the passage of end flanges 15 of a member 13 which supports the bottom plate 18 of the mould, the side flanges 16 of the member 13 being arranged to slide externally of the mould. The base of the member 13 has a central opening which slides over the handle 11 of the mould 10. The member 13 is retained in a position of adjustment, according to the thickness of the ice-cream wafer to be produced, by a ring 20 having an inwardly projecting pin engaging in interconnected grooves in the handle, a ring 21, likewise associated with the grooves, being brought to bear against the ring 20 to lock it in position. The ejection of the finished wafer is effected by sliding the member 13 upward over the handle. The plate 18, as shown, is slidably removable from the member 13, or alternatively, is hinged thereto, to permit the device to be disassembled for cleaning. Instead of interconnected grooves in the handle, series of rigid studs, each series being spaced along the handle, may be provided. The ring 20 is slotted to corresponding with the stud arrangement, so that when the slots and studs are aligned, the ring is movable longitudinally on the handle. Alternatively, instead of fixed studs, spring-pressed studs or balls may be provided. A number of upstanding elements on the member 13 may be arranged to pass through corresponding openings in the mould base, in which case the biscuit rests upon the elements, the plate 18 being dispensed with. Fig. 9 shows a device for moulding ice - cream for insertion into a wafer cone. The bottom plate 27 of the mould 25 is carried by rods 33 passing through holes in the mould base and releasably connected to an annular disc 34 having keyhole slots in which the ends of the rods are engaged. One rod 33 is surrounded by a sleeve 35 having a helical groove which is engaged by a projection 37 on the base of the mould or on the handle 26. Longitudinal motion of the ring 34 on the handle produces corresponding movements of the rods 33 and plate 27, and a rotation of the sleeve 35 which is transmitted by gearing 38, 39 to a scraping blade 41 journalled at 40 in the plate 27. Sticking of the ice-cream to the plate, during ejection, is thereby prevented. The blade 41 and its operating mechanism may be dispensed with, and the rods 33 may be screwed to enable the disc 34 to be secured thereto between nuts. The . effective depth of the mould may be varied by selecting from a number of subsidiary discs having central stems of different lengths, the selected subsidiary disc being placed on the disc 27 so that its stem projects through, and is held in, a keyhole slot in the disc 27. The inward movement of the disc 27 is thus limited by the stem abutting against the floor of the mould.
