Abstract
476,487. Cooling cylinders. ROWLEDGE, A. J. June 4, 1936, No. 15628. [Class 7 (ii)] In an in-line engine in which cooling air is discharged against one side of a cylinder bank, baffles B, which extend into the cylinder heads, have passages C which convey part of the air to the rear of the cylinders ; the air is discharged on to the fins through orifices C<2>, which preferably have wings D with curvedover ends D<1> in contact with the cylinder fins. Figs. 1 and 2 show branched passages C leading to a common exit, but Fig. 6 shows single passages leading to one side of the cylinder where baffles E<2>, extending to the roots of the fins, cause the air to flow out past the ends E<5> of parts which extend round the fins. The baffles may be fixed by studs extending through the fins has described in Specification 475,887.
