[Class 83 (iv)] In a riveting-machine, comprising a reciprocating set and reciprocating jaws which hold a rivet for application to the work by the set, and are mounted on leaf springs working in slideways, there is provided between the set reciprocating means and the jaws a contraction spring which is compressed when the set moves from the work whereby the jaws are urged away from the work yieldmgly, and damage is avoided if the blade springs jam. Rivets are fed between jaws 5 on leaf springs 6 secured at their upper ends to a slidable block 7, and are transferred to the work by the set 4. A rod 10 movable with the set engages the block 7 resiliently through springs 14, 15, the movement of the block being limited by a stop 20 and an adjustable stop 21. The operation is such that the set moves into engagement with a rivet in the jaws, the jaws and set then move together towards the work, and the jaws are finally checked and the rivet ejected by continued movement of the set, forced into the work, and upset against an anvil.
