Abstract
476,096. Hair - curling appliances. SOLOMON, N. L. April 9, 1937, No. 10202; Convention date, Dec. 21, 1936. [Class 131] A hair-curler comprises a perforated tubular member 11 about which the hair is wound, a clamp 12 pivoted thereto, a resilient loop 17 pivotally connected at one end to the tubular member and at its other end carrying a locking member 14 adapted to engage the open end of the tubular member, and an exothermic heat generating cartridge 15 within the tubular member retained in position by the locking member. The cartridge 15 consists of a flexible perforated jacket of aluminium or tin foil containing powdered quick lime or strontia and having twisted ends 27 and is surrounded by a moisture absorbing jacket. When the cartridge has been wetted and placed inside the wound curler, one of the ends 27 bears on the pivot tube 16 and the other end is deformed and held by the stay 14. Accelerators or decelerators may be combined with the exothermic substance. A guard comprising layers of rubber 21 and felt 32 with a U-shaped cut for the passage of the hair-tress may be placed between the wound curler and the head.
