Abstract
475,869. Diaphragms. MURPHY RADIO, Ltd., and WEBB, A. K. May 21, 1936, No. 14405. [Class 40 (iv)] A diaphragm for loud-speakers is provided with an adherent layer or coating of finelydivided fibrous material, such as wool, silkfibre, or cotton flock, to hinder the flexure of the diaphragm involved in resonance to particular frequencies. The coating is applied by covering the surface to be treated with an adhesive, for instance, by spraying, and subsequently blowing the finely divided fibrous material upon the adhesive whilst it is still soft or tacky. The adhesive may be glue, varnish, resin, or a rubber solution and is preferably that known under the name of Suedine. The damping material may be applied along lines or over areas of flexure corresponding to particular resonances of the diaphragm.
