Abstract
475,532. Adjusting wireless apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., KNIGHT, S. G., and STAPLES, E. I. May 22, 1936, No. 14551. [Class 37] A tuning - control device, particularly for wireless apparatus for adjusting a condenser or other member to any one of a number of selected angular positions, comprises a plurality of normally fixed but angularly - adjustable coaxial rings having notches or projections on their inner peripheries and a rotatable control member carrying a pawl or plunger adapted to engage with any one of the notches or projections on the rings. The rings D correspond in number to the number of tuning positions to be selected and each is provided with a notch P and a projection Q. The rings are separated by non-rotatable washers and are stacked coaxially in a casing, clamped against a rear plate C by screws K or by a cam device. The rings are separately adjusted to the desired positions by the projections Q, so that when the control knob G is rotated to any one of these positions, a plunger H engages in a notch P on one of the rings. The plunger H is pressed outwards by a spring but can be moved inwards to disengage it from a notch by manually pressing in a spring-pressed rod which projects from the control knob G. This rod carries a cam surface which during the inward movement moves a rod coaxial with the control knob inwardly, so that a second cam surface on this coaxial rod engaging a pin on the plunger H moves the latter out of engagement with the notch. The tuning control dial is provided with a scale S cooperating with a pointer on the knob G and a shallow groove in the cover may accommodate metal pieces T. Alternatively, calibration marks may be engraved upon the cover or in a disc secured in the groove. A second knob M on a spring loaded pin provides, when depressed, a slow motion drive for the control shaft, which may be frictional or through gears Y, Z.
