Abstract

<PICT:0475024/IV/1> <PICT:0475024/IV/2> <PICT:0475024/IV/3> <PICT:0475024/IV/4> In the production of artificial silk by po or bobbin method, the processing carried out between the thread-forming means and the pot or bobbin is performed by treating the threads with liquids while carried by a self-advancing reel or reels, each reel being mounted on a shaft which does not project beyond one end face of the reel. If desired, one or more godet wheels may also be interposed. The reel may be of the construction described in Specification 413,414, [Group IX], except that the shaft carrying a reel is not provided with supports on each side of the reel. The reel may be of plain cylindrical form; or it may be tapered in order to subject the thread to a certain amount of stretching, or according to the direction of the taper, in order to permit shrinkage if desired. Processing treatments comprise regeneration, desulphurizing, bleaching, washing, etc.; these or a number of them may be carried out on a single reel, or a separate reel may be allocated to each treatment and the reels together with the godets may have the same or different diameters, and they may be driven at the same or different peripheral velocities, so permitting stretching of the thread during its travel. An arrangement with two reels is shown in Fig. 7, the thread from the spinneret 102 being led to the first reel 105 and then to an upper reel 106, each reel being arranged to project towards the front of the spinning machine, and in each case the thread is led by suitable guides 126, 127 to the remote end of the reel. Liquid distributers 116 for showering liquid on to the threads are mounted above each reel, collecting troughs 118 common to a number of reels in a row being arranged to deal with surplus liquid. The thread is finally led to a bobbin 107. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 11 and 12, the reels 105b, 106b have their axes set longitudinally with the spinning machine, and there are two sets of distributers 116b, 116c for each reel; separate troughs 118b are provided, and these are divided by an intermediate partition 143, each section having its own drain. Shields 148 prevent splashing. Whereas in the first-mentioned construction, the reels are driven by bevel gearing 129, 131, Fig. 7, in the arrangement of Figs. 11 and 12, chain gearing 139 is employed, the gearing being enclosed in housings 142. Specifications 413,413, 474,973, 474,974, and 475,023 also are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes an arrangement in which the thread from the spinning bath is led to an upper reel 5b, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), and then transferred to a lower reel 5c on the first part of which the thread is treated with liquid from a distributer 16a, surplus liquid being collected in a trough 18 and passed to a tank 19 from which is returned to the distributer, and on the later part with a washing liquid from a distributer 22, this part having a separate collecting trough 23. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
