[Class 3 (i)] An animated or moving light effect is produced by colouring an object or a representation thereof with pigments 132-136, Fig. 11, gradationally varied in respect of hue, brightness, or purity, and illuminating the whole of said object or representation by coloured light which is made up of a continuous illumination by light of one colour, and an intermittent or cyclically varying illumination by light of another colour or colours. The apparatus employed may be that described in Specification 470,005, with a modified form of shutter mechanism which is shown in Fig. 7. In this arrangement the colour filter 104 has twelve sectors, four of which, 106, forming a cross, are of one colour, say red, four, 107, of another colour, say green, and four, 108, of a third colour, say blue. A cross-shaped obturator pivoted at 110 is adapted to be oscillated by a bell-crank 92 to cover alternately all the green and all the red, the blue filters remaining continuously in action.
