474,505. Gear - cutting. PREIS, G., and BEGER, R. Jan. 1, 1937, No. 68. Convention date, Jan. 8, 1936. [Class 83 (iii)] In cutting straight or inclined spur gear teeth n a conical blank 4, a hob 2 driven in the usual timed relation with the work is arranged with its axis 1 inclined at an angle a, Fig. 1, to the work axis 3 so that the teeth may be generated by a tangential traverse of the hob past the work. To allow for the conicity of the blank the hob axis is also inclined to the blank axis at the angle b Fig. 2. For cutting inclined teeth, Fig. 3, a hob 2<1> of different lead angle is arranged at an angle a<1> with the work.
