Abstract

474,483. Door-operating mechanism. NEWMAN & SONS, Ltd., W., and SHEAD, H. C. Aug. 12, 1936, No. 22173. [Class 65 (i)] Two swinging doors 1, 2 are interconnected for simultaneous operation by chains 14 passing round sprockets 7 carried by and rotating with the doors, the sprockets being offset so that their axes are outside the median planes of the doors; the interconnecting mechanism can thus be accommodated in a casing on the frame without requiring any part of the frame to be cut away. The doors are mounted on pivots 8 carried by brackets 5 projecting outwards from the faces of the doors and slightly rearwards past the door edges that abut against the frame, and the sprockets 7 are fixed to the pivots 8. The chains 14 pass round jockey pulleys 12 on the frame and are connected by crossed rods 15, 16, the latter being formed in two parts joined by a central slotted member 18 through which the rod 15 passes. In place of sprockets, drums to which the chains are attached by pins may be used. The rods 15, 16 may be dispensed with, and a single endless crossed chain used. The jockey pulleys 12 may be replaced by fixed pins or other guides.
