[Class 46] In a filter of the rotary leaf type, the filter leaves are supported in inclined positions between longitudinally spaced hoops carried by a hollow trunnion shaft, with which the inner edges of the leaves are in hydraulic communication through drainage fittings carried by the hollow shaft. A hollow wormdriven shaft 14 is supported in bearings carried by one end wall of the filter casing 11, and is provided with a hollow boss 15 having radial passages 16, Fig. 3, each of which communicates through a drainage member 22 with the inner edge of one of the filter leaves 21. The leaves 21 are supported in inclined positions between two spaced parallel hoops 20, Fig. 1, and 19, Fig. 3, which are carried by spokes 33 from flanges on the shaft 14, the leaves being connected at the inner corners to the hoops by brackets 34. Each leaf 21 consists of cloth-covered gauze carried by a rectangular frame of U-section, the inner edge of which is perforated to communicate with a drainage conduit 25, to which the central drainage member 22 is connected. To enable the leaves 21 to be withdrawn radially from the casing, they are normally secured at the outer edge by a clamping bar 40 detachably secured by nuts 41 to threaded rods 39 engaging the brackets 34. Each filter leaf may also be maintained in position relatively to the shaft 14 by a centrally disposed rod having a screw-threaded engagement with a collar &c. carried by the drainage member 22 or other fitting on the shaft.
