Abstract
471,236. Gear-cutting. VORBACH, R. Dec. 28, 1936, No. 35559. [Class 83 (iii)] A gear-hobbing machine has an electric driving motor mounted on the hobbing head and connected to the hob spindle by an inelastic transmission. In one form, Fig. 2, the hob spindle 12 is mounted on a swivelling head 22 carried by a slide 20 which is fed on guides 21 axially of the work 15. The driving motor 1 is mounted on the head 22 and drives the hob spindle through gears 17, 18, 19, 11. The blank is driven from the gear 11 through gears 10 ... 4, 13 and 14. The shaft 5<1> in this train is shown at right-angles to its true position and the gear 6 slides axially to permit feed movement of the slide 20. In a modification, Fig. 4, the work is mounted on a slide 27 which is moved on guides 28 to impart axial feed to the work while the hob is mounted in a swivelled head 22. The motor 1 is as before mounted on the head 22. In another modification, Fig. 6, both the swivelling and axial feed movements are imparted to the work. In other modifications, the motor 1 is connected directly to the hob spindle.
