471,081. Divan beds. GOMME, Ltd., E., and BARNES, L. G. July 17,1936,No. 19919. [Class 52 (ii)] A combination article of furniture serving as a divan or a bed comprises a shelf fitment such as a bookshelf 1, 2, having end members 4, a back rest 9 mounted on the fitment below the shelf, and a lower recessed portion arranged to accommodate one side of a bed 11 so that the two ends 5 thereof are close to the ends 4 of the fitment. When pushed back the bed forms a divan, and when drawn forward may be used as a bed. The back rest is preferably pivotally and adjustably secured to the shelf fitment, and may be shorter than the latter to allow the upstanding head and foot of the bed to pass between it and the ends 4. Guides and runners may be provided on the shelf fitment and bed, with suitable stops, to control and limit the movement of the bed.
