Abstract

Cattle food is made by mixing the residual vegetable matter or pulp of beet with a proportion of the lime sludge of beet sugar manufacture, and drying the mixture. Bone flour, rock phosphate, and salt may be added. Plain or molassed pulp may be used. Lime sludge and molasses may be agitated and mixed in a tank and then sprayed over the pulp, or a layer of sludge carried by a conveyer, may be mixed by rakes with pulp moving in the same direction as that of the conveyer. According to the Provisional Specification, sulphur dioxide may be used for bleaching purposes in cases where an increased amount of sludge is used.
