Abstract

470,706. Sanitary bins. AYLIFFE, H. Feb. 18, 1936, No. 4928. [Class 26] [Also in Group XXXII] A dustpan or the like whereby large quantities of sweepings can be handled comprises a box like body 1 and a supplementary receptacle or lid 8 to collect the sweepings which are periodically transferred to the box. The dustpan body 1 is of sheet metal or other suitable material with an opening 2 closable by the lid 8 which is pivoted along its upper edge 11 to the body. A long handle 5 has a yoke 6 with its free ends fixed to a pair of small discs 7 having centre pins rotating in the sides of the body 1. A pair of arms 9 with links 10 connect the lid 8 with the discs 7. When the handle 5 is pushed to the rear the lid 8 will close and discharge its contents into the body 1. A movable wire grid 13 or a plate carried by a transverse rod 14 serves to compact the sweepings. The edge 8b, Fig. 5, of the lid 8 is normally held slightly raised by a spring means 20 during transport but the edge 21 can be depressed for use in sweeping.
