Abstract

470,330. Metal-heating furnaces. SADLER, A. (Electric Furnace Co.) Nov. 12, 1935, No. 31222. [Class 51 (ii)] Charges, cooling.-In a continuous metalheating furnace, adapted particularly for annealing metal strip s, the latter on leaving the heating chamber 2, is passed through a cooling chamber 16 in which a protective atmosphere is maintained and in which cooling is effected by oil or water delivered on to both surfaces of the strip by pipes 17. Between the outlet 5 of the furnace and the chamber 16 there are provided a slow cooling chamber 6, having a heatinsulating lining 8, and a rapid cooling chamber 10 water jacketed at 13. The protective atmosphere is supplied under pressure through a pipe 9 adjacent the inlet end of the slow cooling chamber 6. The oil or water used in the chamber 16 is continuously recirculated by a pump 20 through a pipe system in which is incorporated a cooling apparatus 22. When oil is used, wipers 28 are provided to remove any excess oil from the strip before it reaches the discharge aperture 29. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to British Specification 8362/11, [Class 51 (ii)], and U.S.A. Specification 1,999,832.
