[Class 141] An edging strip for use in connection with upholstery or the like includes a strip of flexible material such as passe-menterie, artificial leather, natural leather, waxed cloth, linen fabric, or the like, the edge portions of which are folded to form the finished strip, one or both of said edge portions being formed with recesses, apertures, serrations, or the like along the whole length of the strip. The strip 1, formed with serrations 2 along the whole of one edge, is coated on one face with an adhesive 5 and the edges are folded over reinforcing elements 3, formed, for example, of paper, cotton, hemp, rubber, wires, or the like to form the edging shown in Fig. 3. The serrations allow the two exterior layers of the strip to be secured directly to each other. In a modification, the adhesive is applied only to the margins of the strip, both edges of which are serrated, the width of each band of adhesive being preferably one-third of the width of the strip. The marginal portions are then folded over reinforcing strips 3, Fig. 7, after which they are folded again to form the strip shown in Fig. 10. An auxiliary filling strip 4, Fig. 12, of suitable material may be interposed between the folds, or both the strip 4 and the reinforcing strips 3 may be dispensed with. The serrations, recesses, or apertures in the edge of the strip may be cut out, or the strip may be made, as for example by weaving, so that the serrations &c. are present.
