Abstract
469,870. Garment rails ; furniture joints. MARTIN, A. Oct. 20, 1936, No. 28513. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (v)] In collapsable garment rails, cheval mirror frames, or like structures comprising a pair of spaced uprights 1, 2 with detachable crossmembers or rails 3, 4 between them, one of the cross-rails is connected to the uprights by telescopic joints 9, 11, the axes of which converge, and means are provided for positively retaining the uprights against movement towards or away from each other. As shown, the lower end 9 of each upright is bent upwardly at an acute angle and the end parts 11 of the lower cross rail 4 are bent downwardly and adapted to telescope with the parts 9. The upper cross-rail 3, or the mirror in the case of a cheval mirror frame, is provided with sockets 13 taking over the upper ends of the uprights. Diverging feet 5, 6 with castors are provided on the uprights. In modifications, the lower ends of the uprights are bent downwardly and outwardly, or the oblique portion of the upright is formed separately and attached thereto at a distance from the lower end, or the upper ends of the uprights may be obliquely bent and the lower rail may engage vertically upturned parts of the uprights to prevent separation.
