Abstract
469,784. Control system for poweroperated shut - off devices. BAMAGMEGUIN AKT.-GES. May 25, 1936, No. 14722. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1935. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXVII] A control system for a series of poweractuated valves particularly those used for controlling the operation of an adsorber plant employing active carbon as adsorbing material is arranged so that following an initial controlling impulse by hand or time switch the closing movement of two valves is initiated and the control circuit broken, the circuit being automatically re-established when the two valves reach their closed position, which action initiates the opening of two other valves. In the form shown in the Figure the control is adapted to the control of the eight valves corresponding to the four phases of the active carbon process namely charging, steaming, drying, and cooling. The valves, two only of which are shown, are actuated by double-acting pistons controlled in pairs by piston control valves 7-10. These valves are successively actuated by a series of cams 13-16 on a shaft 17 intermittently rotated by an electric motor 22 acting through reduction gearing 24 and worm gearing 25. The worm-wheel may act on the shaft 17 through a crank arm and ratchet gear to ensure that the shaft is rotated exactly #th revolution at each action. The motor is connected to the power mains through two electromagnetically operated main switches 35, 47 arranged in parallel. The solenoid 36 of the switch 35 is coupled to the negative main through a push-button or time switch 37 and to the positive main through a commutator switch 26 on the shaft 17. When the pushbutton is depressed the motor is started, the circuit being maintained through an auxiliary switch in parallel with the pushbutton, actuated by the solenoid 36. After rotating the shaft through #th revolution the motor is automatically stopped leaving one or other of the cams in the position necessary to initiate the closing of two valves. When these valves reach their closed position, a series of switches arranged in series and each operated by levers coupled to the several valves are closed to complete the circuit through the solenoid 45 of the switch 47. This restarts the motor, the circuit being maintained by auxiliary contacts 46, to rotate the shaft through another #th revolution when it is again stopped leaving one or other of the cams in the position necessary to initiate the opening of a pair of valves. The valve - actuated switches also operate switches controlling indicating lamps which light up when the corresponding pair of valves are open. A further signal lamp lights up when all the valves are closed.
