Abstract
469,145. Coated fabrics; compound sheet materials. LEDOFSKY, A. VON, and GRABEC, J. March 16, 1936, No. 7882. Convention date, March 19, 1935. [Class 140] A flexible, air-permeable, waterproof material consists of a fabric a coated on one or both sides with a waterproofing layer b, said layer being formed with apertures c of capillary dimensions by moulding and being of a water-repellent nature or provided with a water-repellent surface. The apertures may be pyramidal, conical, cylindrical, or may taper as shown. Rubber or synthetic rubber compositions, rubber latex, or rubber dispersions may be used as the water-proofing layer, suitable water-repellent ingredients being paraffin and stearic acid. The fabric may be treated with water-repellent substances such as paraffin or aluminium soaps before coating. Fabric coated with unvulcanized rubber may be hot-pressed with a moulding implement provided with pyramidal or conical projections, if desired until vulcanization is complete ; fabric spread with a composition comprising the synthetic rubber sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Duprene " is passed through a pair of heated rolls, one of which has pyramidal or conical projections, vulcanization being completed between the rolls if desired ; or a plate provided with pyramidal or conical projections is coated with rubber solution, dispersion, or thickened latex so that only the tips of the projections are visible, a fabric treated with thin rubber solution is applied to the dried coating, and the whole pressed, vulcanized, and removed from the plate. The apertures may be uniformly or non-uniformly spaced and may form patterns. Specification 457,203 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also products in which two plies of fabric are united to an intermediate apertured rubber layer. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
