Abstract

[Class 17 (ii)] [Also in Groups V and XVI] Foot-arch supports, and devices for relieving the pressure of the shoe &c. on a bunion, enlarged joint, &c., are made by stretching flexible material 14 over a cast or die 13, applying liquid or semi-liquid to the sheet 14, and then subjecting the whole to heat to vulcanize or harden the coating material while the sheet is under tension. The tension is applied by hooked springs 9 adjustably mounted on screws 7 carried by a collar 6 that is adjustable on a leg 2 carrying a support 3 for the cast. The support 3 is adjustable in the leg 2. Instead of the screws 7, a ring may be employed for carrying the springs 9 around its periphery. In some cases, a sheet of material may be placed over the coated material 14 and be acted upon by an upper reverse die.
