Abstract
467,926. Microscopes. COOKE, TROUGHTON, & SIMMS, Ltd., and TAYLOR, E. W. Jan. 31, 1936, No. 2981. [Class 97 (i)] In a microscope provided with coarse and fine focusing movements, in which the fine motion slide is carried on an intermediate member connected at one side to the limb by the coarse motion slide, the intermediate member is formed at its other side with a guideway shaped to receive and maintain fixedly in position a supporting member of the microscope body and also the sliding member supporting the objective and operated by the fine motion slide. As shown the intermediate member 8 is attached to a dovetail slide 2 moving in a guideway in the limb 1 and carrying a rack engaging a pinion on the shaft 6 operated by the main focusing knob 7. A guideway in the forward face of the member 8 receives at its upper end a dovetail block on the monocular or binocular body. The block is held in place by lateral pressure of the pin 48 produced by the nut 54. The lower end of the guideway receives the slide 27 movable for fine focusing and carrying only the objective on the bracket 29. The fine focusing mechanism is contained within the member 8. Rotation of the motion heads 38 operates the worm 33 engaging the rack sector 15 pivoted at 16. A small displacement is thus transmitted through the pin 18 projecting from the rear of the slide 27 and depressed by the coil spring 21. The movement is limited by the nut 40 working on a lead screw 39 with stops 39a and provided with a key 41 working in the slot 42.
