Abstract
409,245. Microscopes. ZEISS, C., [Firm of], Carl-Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. Dec. 4, 1933, No. 33985. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1932. [Class 97 (i).] In a fine adjustment mechanism for focusing a microscope, the operating knob is connected to the focusing spindle by means of a clutch which automatically disengages when any abnormal resistance to the rotation of the spindle is encountered, e.g. by the microscope objective coming into contact with the slide. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the knob f is formed with a cylindrical recess g containing a spring i and a ball h. The ball normally projects from the aperture and engages a bore e of smaller diameter than the ball, in a disc c secured to the spindle b. When undue resistance is encountered the ball rides over the disc c and is pressed into its recess against the spring i. In another form, Fig. 3, a sleeve o secured to the spindle k carries a radiallyprojecting pin p, the cylindrical surface of which bears in a notch v formed in a resilient disc t carried by the knob m.
