Abstract

466,621. Thermostats. RADIATION, Ltd., YATES, H. J., and PARK, J. Feb. 12, 1936, No. 4223. [Class 135] A thermostatic valve for gas-heated cooking apparatus and water heaters with a fluid thermal element has the thermal feeler A, the adjusting device B and the valve C arranged as separate parts connected by capillary piping a, b or piping whose cross-section is reduced by the insertion of wires. The gas valve g is actuated bv a bellows k connected at one end to a cover plate l and at the other to a thimble m. This thimble houses a head o on the valve spindle normally held by a spring n against a screwed closure for the lower end of the thimble. After the valve has seated this spring permits further expansion of the bellows. The valve is urged towards its open position by a spring t bearing against a flanged member s having an inturned lip resting beneath the thimble. The adjusting device comprises a bellows 4 connected on the one hand to a cover plate 3 and on the other to a member 5 adapted to co-operate with an adjustable stop. This stop has a screw-threaded engagement with the casing and has a square head 7 engaging a recess 14 in a member 12 rotatably secured to the casing by a member 13. A manipulating handle 10 and indicating dial 11 are secured to the member 12, the dial being arranged to rotate within a flange 16 on the member 13. The flange 16 has a window 17 through which the dial markings may be observed. The stop may be provided with a spring-supported tip 8 adapted to give in the event of abnormal pressure acting within the bellows.
