[Class 81 (ii)] A massage appliance comprises a broad belt adapted to embrace the greater part of that portion of the body to be massaged but leaving a gap, such gap being bridged by thin straps which come into direct contact with the body and pass freely through rings provided with massaging rollers, the rings being attached to the broad belt and arranged to act in the manner of pulleys in conjunction with the straps when the latter are attached to a fixed point. In Figs. 1 and 2, the belt consists of two lateral parts 1, 1a of elastic fabric, composed for example of rubber and textile threads, or of sheet rubber joined at the back by adjusting straps 2 and buckles 3. The adjusting straps may, however, consist of elastic material or springs, in which case the parts 1, 1a are of non-elastic material. Two groups 4, 4a of thin straps are provided, being respectively fixedly connected to the parts 1, la through rings 5, 5a and running freely through rings 6a, 6 also attached to the parts of the belt. A massage roller 8 is rotatably mounted in each ring. Rollers may also be mounted on other parts of the belt. In operation the ends of one group are attached to a fixed point, and the other group is held in the hand, the belt being alternately tightened and slackened by a swaying movement of the body. In Fig. 6, the straps of one group 4a are doubled back through supplementary buckles formed on the rings 5a so that the free ends of both groups can be attached to the same fixed point.
