Abstract
466,342. Clips. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 12, 1937, No. 4216. Convention date, March 24, 1936. [Class 44] A clipping arm for securing a trim panel A to the door B of a motor car comprises a length of spring wire 35 bent to U-form and having its limbs releasably secured to the panel by an anchoring device 50 secured to the panel by prongs 53 clinched over after insertion. The clip is applied to the panel by nipping the limbs together and passing them under an upstanding part 52 of the anchoring device behind which the off-set ends 40 of the limbs engage when released, the ends 40 resting against flanges 50a. The clipping arm is oppositely curved at 37, 38, the free end 36 being directed away from the panel to facilitate application to the door. In use, the requisite number of clips C, Fig. 8, are applied to the panel spaced along, and with the ends 36 directed towards, the edges of the panel.. Clips at one edge are engaged with flange 15, the panel is then bent to allow clips at the opposite edge to engage flange 16 when the panel is again flattened, and the panel is then slid downwards to engage the remaining clips with flange 17 at the bottom of the door. The edge 33 of the fabric on the panel may be left unsecured to the panel backing so that it may be folded into the window aperture and secured by a garnish rail 55, Fig. 6, with attachment screws 56. A modification is described in which the clip arms have coil-spring loops at the parts 38.
