Abstract

465,946. Automatic control systems. LEA RECORDER CO., Ltd., and HORNER, J. W. Oct. 16, 1935, No. 28533. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXI] Fluid level.-In mechanism for limiting the maximum flow of fluid in a channel or other passage, comprising a penstock or valve operated by a reversible electric motor and control means for the motor operated by the flow, a periodic or time switch is associated with the control circuits so that the control is only operative at and for predetermined intervals of time. As applied to sewage disposal works, an indicator or recorder c, operated by a float d, is associated with a weir b in a channel a, and a separating or storm weir e. Between the weirs band e is a penstock f raised and lowered by a reversible electric motor f controlled by the indicator c so as to maintain the water level at the float nearly constant. The float operates a two way mercury switch g which closes one or other of the circuits to the motor f<1> to raise or lower the penstock. In these circuits are an up limit switch h and a down limit switch i respectively, controlled by the penstock. A periodic or time switch j is located in the common return lead which closes the circuit at definite intervals, e.g. three minutes, for short periods of a few seconds, and thus allows the motor to operate only at intervals.
