Abstract
465,735. Tar &c. boilers. JOHNSTON BROS. (CONTRACTORS), Ltd., and LAMB, P. G. Nov. 12, 1935, No. 31292. [Class 107] A cauldron 10 for tar, bitumen, and the like has, in its base, an inwardly projecting part 11 forming a chamber for the heated gases of the furnace 12 and is provided with an upright baffle 15 surrounding the projecting part of the base. This baffle terminates short of the lower part of the cauldron and extends above the projecting part 11. The bitumen or the like may be fed from barrels 22 to a pre-heating chamber 16 which is fitted with strainers 23. This chamber is heated by a separate furnace or by flue pipes 19 leading from the projecting part 11 to the chimney 20. The heated material passes over a weir 17 and through a strainer 18 into the cauldron, the base 13 of which slopes downwards towards an outlet 14. Thence the material flows upwardly into the space enclosed by the baffle, whence it is withdrawn by a discharge-pipe 24 having a filter 25.
