Abstract
465,424. Wringers. SCHROEDER, S. E. Feb. 26, 1936, No. 5819. [Class 138 (ii)] The lower roller of a wringer is raised into operative engagement with the upper roller, which is subjected to the usual yielding pressure, by means operated by the rotation of the roller shaft and is retained in that position by the pressure existing between the rollers until such is released either normally or by the wrapping of an article around the upper roller. The upper roller shaft 29, Fig. 6, is journalled in a casing 21 pivotally supported on, and normally latched to, a stationary frame 20, carrying the lower roller shaft 53. The pressure - applying, latching and releasing mechanisms are those described in Specification 466,230. The lower roller shaft is journalled in stirrup members 52 slidably mounted in guides 51 within the stationary frame 20 and provided with integral depending fingers 53 which engage cams 76 secured to a shaft 50 extending beneath and parallel with the lower roller. An arm 68 also is secured to one end of the cam-shaft 50 and carries a block 69, Fig. 3, slidably mounted thereon. Upward movement of the block is limited by a pin, and a spring 73 anchored at its upper end to a fixed point on the stationary frame and at its lower end to an arm 70 on the block 69 normally keeps the arm 68 vertical so that the fingers 53 engage in recesses 79 in the low portions 77 of the cams 76 and the lower roller is retained out of contact with the upper. An arm 65 is secured to the lower roller shaft and is provided with a shaped head 66 to engage the block 69 whereby, according to the directions of rotation of the lower roller, the arm 68 is swung to the left or right to raise one of the high portions 78 of the cams 76 into engagement with the fingers 53 to raise the lower roller and stress the spring 73. The fingers rest in notches 79a in the cams until, on release of the pressure between the rollers, the spring 73 restores the cam-shaft 50 to normal position permitting the lower roller to descend to inoperative position.
