Abstract

464,781. Photographic cameras. KODAK, Ltd. Oct. 24, 1935, No. 29369. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1934. [Class 98 (i)] A folding camera comprises a lens carrier which during folding is always maintained parallel to the focal plane, a hinged baseboard and a link mechanism comprising two arms pivoted to the lens carrier and a second pair of arms pivoted to the body portion of the camera, both pairs of arms being coupled together and with the baseboard so that movement of the baseboard turns both pairs of arms about their pivots and moves the lens carrier towards or away from the body portion. The baseboard 2 provided with side walls 5 is hinged at 3 to the end wall 4 of the camera. Two braces 6 hinged at 7 to the baseboard 2 slide between a roller 8 and a mutilated gear wheel 9. The upper end of each brace is formed with a rack 10 with an enlarged tooth 11. A lens board 13 is connected to the camera at each side by link mechanism comprising a pair of arms 17, 18 with interengaging toothed segments 19, 20, the arms being pivoted to the board 13 at 21, 22 and at 15, 16 to a second pair of arms 23, 24. The arms 23, 24 have toothed segments 25, 26 supported on pivots 27, 28. The pivot pin 28 also supports the mutilated gear 9 so that when the baseboard is moved the links are rotated about their pivots and the lens board is moved backwards and forwards. The brace member transmits movement to the links only during the early part of the closing movement of and the late part of the opening movement. A spring 37 assists the opening of the camera. A cover plate 30 is hinged at 31 to 'the body portion 1 and each side 32 is grooved at 33 to receive a pin 34 on the lens board 13. As the camera is closed, the cover plate 30 turns in the downward direction and towards the end of the movement, pins 35 on the cover plate engage cams 36 on the baseboard 2 and assist the closing of the cover plate 31. The parts are held in the open position by a pivoted lever catch, the nose 34 of which is constrained to engage the last tooth 45 of the mutilated gear 9, and to be released by the button 40. The parts are held in the closed position by a bar which is urged by a spring to engage lugs carried by the baseboard 2. A wire spring looped about pins carried beneath the lens board 13 may engage the arms 18 and assist the opening movement of the camera.
