Abstract

464,327. Spray carburetters. SOC. GENERALE DES CARBURATEURS ZENITH. Aug. 15, 1935, No. 22982. Convention date, Aug. 30, 1934. [Class 7 (iii)] A carburetter comprises a fuel chamber closed by a diaphragm connected to the fuel inlet valve thereof and controlling the pressure therein, a chamber separated from the fuel chamber by the diaphragm, two passages connecting the chamber with the suction pipe of the carburetter and with the atmosphere or the carburetter air intake, and a valve or like adjusting member for varying the relative cross-sectional area of said passages, the adjusting member being operatively connected to a control member adapted to be actuated independently of the carburetter throttle. A diaphragm 15 separating a suction chamber 17 from a fuel chamber 11 controls the fuel supply through a valve 13 and is itself actuated by the pressure in the chamber 17 with or without a spring 16. A conduit 19 opening into the induction pipe adjacent the fuel nozzle 6 communicates, past a control valve 21, with the chamber 17 which is also open to the atmosphere through an orifice 18. The valve 21 determines the suction applied to the chamber 17 and as shown is actuated by a slotted lever 43 moved by an arm 41 connected to an expansible bellows 50 which responds to atmospheric pressure and adjusts the valve for altitude. The lever 43 pivots about the connection between a fuel control lever 9 and a member 10 linking it to the throttle 2, the arrangement permitting the throttle and the bellows 50 to actuate the valve 21 independently. In other forms, the bellows is replaced by a manual control and the connection between the arm 41 and the throttle is omitted. The diaphragm 15, Fig. 4, is mechanically connected to a diaphragm 29, of similar or different size, which forms part of a suction chamber 28 corresponding to the chamber 17, Fig. 6, and the air orifice 18 is replaced by a passage connecting the chamber 33 of the bellows 32 to the conduit 19 below the control valve 35. Specifications 378,038 and 382,948 are referred to.
