Abstract

463,703. Filters. PRECISION METERS, Ltd., and HORTON, F. Oct. 10, 1935, No. 27997. [Class 46] A filtering element, which is arranged so that liquid passes upwards therethrough, comprises a number of surfaces extending in the direction of flow and adapted to move relatively to one another or to vibrate under the flow of liquid against the action of a spring. Liquid passes upward in a casing 5 with inlet 6 and outlet 7 through a filtering element 8, normally of inverted conical shape, which is formed by coiling alternate corrugated and plane metal strips about a sleeve 12, one end of each strip being inserted into a cut in the sleeve. The periphery of the element is gripped between rings 9, 10, in a recess in the casing and the sleeve 12 is mounted on a plunger 13, which, under pressure of the liquid, slides in a sleeve 14 against the action of a spring 17, upward movement being limited by a perforated plate or spider 16 when the boss 15 of the spider engages the end of the sleeve 14. The inlet 6 may be arranged tangentially to give a scouring effect. Separated matter falls past a valve 21 into a detachable cup 20, which is screwed to the casing 5. The valve 21 is kept in its upper open position by a screwed stop 25, which engages the valve stem 26 and can be withdrawn to allow the valve to close under the action of a spring 24, when it is desired to detach and empty the cup 20, this arrangement forming the subjectmatter of Specification 463,832.
